In principle, a TV adaption of Liu Cixin’s sci-fi novel The Three-Body Problem by the producers who made Game of Thrones seems logical. They had success before turning niche genre fiction into watchable entertainment for people who would otherwise want little to do with it; perhaps they will work their magic again. I’m not quite one of those people — I dutifully read The Three-Body Problem a few years ago when the English translation was widely hyped. But since I retained basically nothing from that reading experience, the show seemed perfect for me: It offered a way to reconsume something I had already felt it advisable to be familiar with, only in a more digestible form. So here I am now, ready to participate in the discourse.
