It was inevitable that something like the “Drunk Nancy Pelosi” deepfake would circulate, and it’s spurred a range of responses from tech companies (YouTube took it down; Facebook didn’t) and press commentators (for many of whom it has functioned as a Rorschach for their attitudes toward journalism as civics and deplatforming as censorship).
